Preaching Wisdom

The wisdom books of the Bible are Job, Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, Song of Songs and there is a wisdom category of the Psalms, Psalm 119 being an example of a Wisdom Psalm.

The preacher of these books will never be accused of being anything but contemporary, down to earth and practical.

The best definition of wisdom I have heard is, ‘living life in harmony with reality’.

The fool is not the unintelligent but the person who does not harmonise with the central reality of life, God.

The fool lives as if there is no God, the wise, however, fear the Lord, they harmonise, fear or reverence, with the reality of God, that is the essence of wisdom. Our annual workshop this year will focus on preaching Wisdom books.

David Burge, Pete Ryan, Jim Mobbs, Janet Riley, Jenny Salt and I will help develop our skills in preaching these books.
